We cordially invite you to this event from the Australian Chamber of Commerce in
Beijing:
"Cocktail Seminar- Reducing Risk and Boosting Performance - How limiting your risk
can be the key to unlocking higher returns" - 24 May - Capital Club
Austcham Beijing and BritCham bring you an interesting seminar on Value Investing,
the history of value investing and the efficiency of stock markets as well as the
historical returns of using this investment strategy.
A well-known investment concept is the Risk / Return Trade-off. This states that in
order to generate higher returns, one must accept a higher risk of incurring losses
on invested capital. Buying AAA-rated government bonds (lowest possible risk) will
provide a guaranteed but very modest return. Buying blue-chip equities
(comparatively high risk) has historically provided far superior returns, but
provides no guarantee as to the constancy of returns. This means that an investor
who buys at an opportune time (when the stock market is low) can earn tremendous
returns for several years. But buying at an inopportune time (just before a market
crash) could leave the same investor nursing potentially substantial losses until
markets recover.
The purpose of this seminar is not to suggest that investing in equities can be
risk-free, but rather to explain how the application of a value-investing
methodology allows an investor to minimize risk, whilst simultaneously creating a
scenario in which high returns are most likely.
This truely will be an interesting seminar.

About the speaker:
Justin Lowes has been a member of AustCham Beijing for over 3 years and is the
founder of Lowes Wealth Management, which is a subsidary of Tenbridge Consulting.
Lowes Wealth Management evolved from the Asset Management division of Tenbridge, a
financial services company headquartered in Beijing. Tenbridge was established in
1998. Justin Lowes joined Tenbridge in 2000 and became the owner of the company in
2002. In less than 6 years, Justin developed Tenbridge to become the biggest
Independent Financial Advisory company in Beijing, managing millions of dollars on
behalf of several hundred clients. Increasingly, Justin found the investment
products available in the marketplace to be lacking; often inflexible and opaque.
Charges were fixed, meaning that a client paid a set amount, irrespective of
whether their investments did well. He began to develop the concept of an open-
ended investment account that would allow clients the flexibility to access funds
at any time and without penalty; the transparency of knowing exactly what they were
being charged and when; and a charging structure that meant that the fees payable
by clients were dependent on the performance of their investments.
