"From Bootstraps to Wealth"
How to leverage your cash flow to finance the
growth of your business
As most of us know, it is very possible to build a business from an idea to a
global player, one step at a time, using the cash flow from client revenues to fund
expansion. It may not be as glamorous as fund raising or listing, but as we have
seen by entrepreneurs conducting share buy backs and delisting, having the control
that self-funding ensures has many rewards.
This session talks about how you can leverage your cash flow to finance the growth
of your business, from bootstraps to wealth. As experienced commentators like Jim
Collins and investors like Warren Buffet suggest, going from good to great requires
a focus on what your customers need, and how best to deliver that. If you get this
equation right, you can grow your business in tandem with your revenues.
On July 19th we have two entrepreneurs who have added value and created wealth
without any outside capital involvement in the early stages of their business
development. Come and here them share their experience.
Derek Ling, CEO, Tianji.com
Derek is an experienced entrepreneur with strong corporate and startup backgrounds.
He had been a Vice President at Sina.com, and had held senior positions at Motorola
and Apple Computer. Tianji.com is his second startup, after Qzone.com which was co-
founded with Mark Wong-VanHaren, one of the founders of Excite. Qzone became the
largest youth entertainment community in China within 6 months of launch.
Through his career, Derek had been a strategy consultant and advisor to a number of
companies, including: Excite – No. 2 portal after Yahoo prior to acquisition by
@Home; Serus – an enterprise solution startup in Silicon Valley; Daren – the
leading radio production and entertainment company in China; and Beijing
MobileData – a mobile service provider.
Derek obtained a Masters Degree from Stanford University and was a Ph.D.candidate
at Stanford.
